Doug and I acquired these kayaks last summer (they belong to his dad) and really looked forward to taking them out more this year. However we have the same problem this year as the last... child care. We found this suit with a built in life float that fit Dakota and decided it would be worth a try taking her with us. We went to Hyrum Resevoir near our house where the water is pretty calm. We stayed near the shores (semi-shallow water) and took turns holding her. She loved it! She did try to jump off the boat a couple times, but thanks to her floating device we were able to grab her easily. She laid across Doug's legs and splashed her feet and arms in the water simultaneously. By the end of our outing, we taught her that the boats don't move unless she is sitting down in our lap. By the end, she was doing really good and I think we'll try it again sometime. Afterward we let her play in the water on the beach which is what she really wanted to do. Then we dried off in the sun and had a delicious apple. Dakota loves apples lately and after I eat around the outside, she will finish the whole thing off. It was a great family day and we are excited it was so successful! We hope to get more kayaking in this summer!
