New Tradition

Since we got the moose yesterday, we had today off from hunting. It was an extra day we weren't planning on, so we really enjoyed spending time together as a family. Doug discovered this pumpkin patch in a town way outside of Logan called Avon, where he took his moose hide to be tanned. It was a very small town with mostly farms, but right next to the mountains and absolutely beautiful. Let me start by letting those of you that don't know, that it was FREEZING today. Literally. Freezing temperatures. Like 30 degrees. So, we broke out Dakota's winter coat, as well as mine and drove out to the pumpkin patch. We got to wander thru the patch with a wagon and shears and pick our own pumpkins right off the vine. Dakota didn't know what we were doing but she was really amused by all the bright orange things laying on the ground and being bundled up and carried around outside with mom and dad. We picked out a pumpkin for each of us. Size appropriate, of course. And Dakota, as you can tell from the picture, LOVED hers! :) Luckily, the pumpkin farm was also an orchard and had fresh apples and even better, hot apple cider that kept our hands and tummies warm! It was a lovely adventure, but we had to make it quick, because all of our noses were red and frozen after only a few minutes!! Still, despite the cold, we enjoyed it so much that we decided to make the pumpkin patch and cider a new tradition for our kids. We love that this is just the beginning of our family and are so excited to create special traditions and memories for our children. Pumpkin carving to be had tomorrow, so stay tuned for more pics!
