My baby girl is 4!

Wow, it's hard to imagine that it's been 4 years since I gave birth to my sweet miss Dakota. At the same time, it feels like she's been a part of us always. I have a hard time remembering life without her... or any of my children.

Dakota is what keeps our family going. She often wears the pants in the family. ;) She thrives on routines and rituals. She likes things to be predictable and is the easiest going girl when they go as planned. She struggles a bit with interruptions to her schedule or major changes, but she's getting better, maturing more and more. She's extremely independent but will still take suggestions from me. However, sometimes I feel like she still has to take the time to decide that it is something she would have wanted to do anyway. She's really too smart for her britches.

She's been in pre-school for a year now and loves it. She loves making friends, having teachers and learning new things. She picks up on everything and has learned how to write her name and recognize some words. We're just beginning to teach her basic reading and addition. She loves to sing and memorizes songs quickly. She can sing almost every word to every song on every movie we own. She often makes up her own tunes and lyrics as well. She's been learning sign language at school and is pretty good at it. She still loves animals. And she is excellent at drawing. She loves movies and TV. But she also loves being active and going outside... riding bikes and playing at the park. She still never stops moving. She loves to swim and is getting quite good at swimming on her own. She also has been in gymnastics for a year now and is almost ready to move to level 3.

She is a fabulous big sister. She loves her brothers and is a good protector of them. She does like to mother Oakley quite a bit, but she is a great helper when I need her. She's always willing to fetch diapers or wipes, blankets, toys etc. She loves to hold Ryden and talk to him and read him stories. She will put the binky in his mouth when he cries and tells him "everything is okay." She and Oakley are the best of friends. They often make up games together, chase each other around and take turns with toys or going down the slide at the park. She teaches him how to do a lot of things (both good and bad).

The things I love about her are that she is so loving. She makes friends wherever she goes. She is extremely smart and is always telling me funny things. She shows genuine interest in just about anything. She's extremely gracious. She finds delight in even the smallest things. She can play by herself for hours and has a great imagination. Right now she's very into her Barbie princess dolls. She tends to get on people's favorites list... everyone always adores her. She must be charming ;) She's very in tune with her feelings, others' feelings and our family. She's sensitive that way. But she also has a lot of sass. She's definitely got the girl drama and I dread the day she's a teenager. As her gym coach always says, "You know you have a 3-year old going on 20, right?" Right. Only now she's 4.

I love this little girl more than I can say and I'm so grateful she's part of our family! Love you my little Koda-bee!
